STEM Project
On Dec. 16, 2014, a select number of students went to West Salem Elementary to work with the Kindegartners on a STEM Project. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The task was to think like an engineer and construct a snowman with the materials giving. The shapes provided where cones, squares, triangles, cubes, cylinders, rectangles, and circles. We had to teach the kids the design process and how to re think is they come to a halt. They learned some new shapes also and how they can be placed in certain ways so that shapes won't fall.
Everything went pretty smoothly. If i had to make changes, I would make the materials consistent throughout all of the boxes. I would also make more time to spend with the kids teaching them the 3-D shapes from the 2-D shapes. |
